Washington state Lane Bryant employees sue Charming Shoppes alleging company policy requiring employees to wear Lane Bryant brand clothing at work violates a state statute.

Attorneys with the firm of Connor & Chung, which filed a similar lawsuit against Abercrombie & Fitch two years ago, are asking that the case be certified as a class-action lawsuit and are seeking reimbursement for employees who have worked at any of the named Charming Shoppes stores since February 2002.

Wal -Mart

Wal-Mart continues to face class action suits related to its hiring practices. A federal judge has given the go ahead to undocumented workers’ suit alleging Wal-Mart failed to pay fair wages and overtime. The suit also alleges Wal-Mart locked the undocumented cleaning crews in the store overnight.

On the allegations of false imprisonment, the workers will have the opportunity, as a class, to sock Wal-Mart with punitive damages, should they win this issue at trial. Linsey says he’ll be able to present testimony not only from workers who were locked into the stores but from their friends, family members and neighbors who sometimes couldn’t find the workers because of their confinement.

Just over a dozen current and former employees of the Commerce Department have filed a discrimination suit against the department.

The 13 aim to represent all black employees who have worked at the department in the last 10 years as well as black and non-black employees who claim retaliation after speaking out against what the suit calls “systemic race discrimination” at the agency. That could be more than 6,000 people.

Sanford, Wittels & Heisler is representing the plaintiffs.
